Intelligent Children and Communication Skills

Are you confident that your intelligent children are achieving their full potential in English language and Communication skills?

It is so frightening in today's world to see many talented children spending so much time using their computers simply as social networking tools and not getting the full benefits modern technology provides.

It is essential to develop skills in communication as early as possible, so that our youngsters will be ready to live in our increasingly competitive world.

If you have bright children and want them to achieve their full potential, it is important to help them boost their creativity without delay by giving them access to well organised and stimulating material .

But communication is not just about using computers. In fact, in my opinion it is a mistake for young people to spend too much time sitting in front of a computer screen. So a well balanced compromise between time spent at the computer and time spent on written and oral communication is necessary.

I believe that my team and I have achieved this balance and so do many parents and teachers who are currently using our material. And it is fun too!

Allow me to begin at the beginning. My name is Alan Young and my team and I are the leading providers of material for Intelligent children in the UK.

I have personally taught for over 30 years
and
have taken a great interest in the
welfare and abilities of intelligent children.

Other members of my team include Teachers of English, artists, drama experts and programmers. Here is a small selection.

"Probably the Best Looking Team in the World"

What is an "Intelligent Child"?

The definitions of 'Intelligent Children' are legion, but I look for
three simple to spot characteristics
:

** A keen look in the eyes when their particular talent or ability is discussed

** A thirst for knowledge and love of learning

** An ability to work unsupervised for extended periods

You may immediately recognise these characteristics in at least one of your own children, so the next two questions must be:

** What do you want them to achieve in life?

** What facilities are availabe for their development?

You will want them to achieve good examination results, of course, and make the most of their abilities, and if they have a particular gift or talent in sport, music or an academic subject, you will want to encourage development in that field.

But in the modern world it is no longer enough to just be good at a particular skill. There is one area that all intelligent children will need to develop well if they are to achieve their full potential and that is COMMUNICATION. Not only do they need to use their talents, they also need to communicate their thoughts and share ideas with others.

WordsPlease is being used in schools:

And by parents with their own children at home:

How does WordsPlease function?

WordsPlease consists of six teaching modules which cover all the main concepts. Each module has a dedicated section on the WordsPlease website and a corresponding printed magazine.

If you subscribe as a parent/guardian, you will receive one magazine per month for the first six months and then continued access to the website in order to complete any unfinished exercises and challenges as long as your subscription remains current.

On the WordsPlease website there is also a Common Resource Area which contains many items not directly related to the teaching modules, but which provides useful and interesting background material related to the English language. Among other items, there are interviews with authors, photographs for inspiration and a 'Now Read On' section in which the WordsPlease team read the first two chapters of books so youngsters may decide whether to purchase and read the rest of the books.

The website also has a safe Forum in which members can add postings about their work, suggestions for books to be read and other contributions they think may be of interest to like minded people. This is a very safe forum as it is only open to WordsPlease subscribers, it is constantly monitored and pseudonames are used so that individual users cannot be identified.

Why Subscribe to WordsPlease?

Being articulate and possessing good communication skills are major determining factors in the level of success enjoyed in both career and society in general and being articulate as an adult is built on the language skills developed in childhood. Just being good is nowhere near enough in the competitive world that our intelligent children will soon be facing. Having brought up six teenagers myself (including foster children), I know how quickly these years fly by and how important it is to give them the grounding they deserve and will soon need.

Most youngsters achieve nowhere near their language potential because they miss out on the necessary practice to achieve this. To address this need, WordsPlease has been developed by experienced teachers of English who have specialist knowledge of how young people learn the English language and how best to guide and motivate them.

WordsPlease works on many levels simultaneously:

** It improves grammar, vocabulary and language structure.

** It builds confidence in verbal and written communication.

** It encourages an appreciation of the richness of the English language and introduces
children to key words and phrases.

Equip your youngsters with skills and knowledge that will last a lifetime!
